Maren's Meadow, a dual graded stakes-winning daughter of Meadowlake, and a yearling filly by City Zip brought the highest prices so far during the third session of the Keeneland January horses of all ages sale when they fetched prices of $105,000 each.
Consigned by Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, agent, 8-year-old mare Maren's Meadow was sold not in foal to the Japan-based Big Red Farm.
While racing for River Ridge Ranch, Maren's Meadow won the 2008 Bourbonette Oaks (gr. III), Monmouth Oaks (gr. III) and one other stakes, and placed in two other black-type events. She retired from racing with earnings of $353,725.
Maren's Meadow is a half sister to stakes winners Chamul (by Mutakddim) and Golden Path (by Slew o' Gold). The latter mare is the dam of Peruvian group III winner Mukhtar (by Grindstone).
Big Red Farm, owned by Shigeyuki Okada and located on the island of Hokkaido, is currently standing dual classic winner I'll Have Another . Okada purchased I'll Have Another for $10 million as a stallion prospect after the colt was scratched from the Belmont Stakes (gr. I) last June because of an injury and retired from racing.
The $105,000 City Zip yearling was bought by William Shively's Lexington-based Dixiana Farms from Darby Dan Farm, agent XVII.
