Ice Box's First Foal Arrives in Florida

Ice Box  , 2010 Florida Derby (gr. I) winner and Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) runner-up, was represented by his first foal on Jan. 5.

The chestnut filly, born at Buena Vista Farm in Ocala, Fla., is out of the Bluegrass Cat   mare Vision in Blue. Vision in Blue was a winner of four races from 21 starts and placed third in the OBS Championship Stakes as a 3-year-old. She sold for $215,000 at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale in 2007 and was offered in the same sale two years later, but did not meet her reserve.

"She's a nice, strong filly with good size and good bone," said Chris Baccari, co-owner of Ice Box. "It's exactly what we were hoping to see in the progeny of Ice Box, so it's a great start to his career at stud."

Ice Box, who earned $948,068 in a career that spanned from ages 2 to 4, is a son of the late notable sire of sires, Pulpit.

Ice Box retired to stud at Calumet Farm and covered his first book of mares in 2012. Upon the sale of Calumet Farm to the Calumet Investment Group Trust, Ice Box was relocated to Three Chimneys Farm later that year and will stand his first season at the Midway, Ky.-based operation in 2013. Calumet Farm has been leased to Thoroughbred owner/breeder Brad Kelley.
