The American Graded Stakes Committee has reinstated the grade III status of the 2012 Daytona Stakes at Santa Anita Park.
The AGSC reviewed the Daytona, which was taken off the hillside turf course and moved to the main track Dec. 29. While seven horses scratched and just five started in the 6 1/2-furlong dirt race, the AGSC saw enough quality in the field to reinstate the grade.
When races are moved from turf to dirt, they automatically are downgraded one grade level pending review.
The race was won by Comma to the Top, a previous grade I winner who secures his third graded stakes victory and sixth stakes win of his career. Stakes winner Clubhouse Ride placed second and two-time stakes winner Ain't No Other finished third.
