The West Virginia Racing Commission has confirmed that Hollywood Casino At Charles Town Races fired racing secretary Randy Wehrman Dec. 18.

WVRC Executive Director Jon Amores said state stewards have launched an investigation that will look into what happened and determine if any action regarding Wehrman's license should be taken. Because of the ongoing investigation, Amores did not want to comment on any details.

Wehrman was named racing secretary at Charles Town in 2008 after working as a racing secretary at Colonial Downs for two years. He had worked as a racing official previously at Charles Town as well as at Keeneland, Penn National Race Course, River Downs, and Turfway Park.

Amores said state stewards typically act quickly, "hours or days," but he did not put a firm date on when the stewards would complete their investigation.
