Bob Baffert-trained China Grind, a 3-year-old son of Grindstone, has been sidelined and is now off the Kentucky Derby trail. Baffert said the colt "will be on the shelf for a while," but declined to name a specific reason for the layoff.
"Just call it growing pains," Baffert said.
Baffert previously said of the $240,000 purchase, "China Grind, if I can keep him together, he could be my (Triple Crown) horse." China Grind worked seven furlongs at Santa Anita on Jan. 5, getting the distance in 1:26 1/5 on a fast track.
R and R King Stable's China Grind is out of China Bell, by Seattle Slew, and won his only career race on Dec. 15 at Hollywood Park.
