Biondetti , a group I-winning son of Bernardini , has been retired and will enter stud in 2013 at Woodford Thoroughbreds in Reddick, Fla. The fee will be $4,000 live foal.
The 4-year-old colt finished his career with three wins in nine starts and earnings of $359,583. He is in quarantine in England and will return to the U.S. later this month. Biondetti and the other stallions at Woodford Thoroughbreds will be available for inspection during a stallion show in January.
Biondetti was bred in Kentucky by Palides Investments N.V., and was purchased for $350,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky 2009 select yearling sale.
Trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni for Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin Racing, Biondetti won his first three starts as a 2-year-old, highlighted by a win in the one-mile Gran Criterium (Ity-I) at Italy's Milan Racecourse. Returned to the U.S., Biondetti completed his juvenile campaign when fourth in the Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) won by eventual champion Uncle Mo . In two starts at age 3, Biondetti finished second in the Prix Messidor (Fr-III).
Produced from the group II-winning Lyphard mare Lyphard's Delta, Biondetti is a half brother to multiple grade III winner Delta Princess, a daughter of A.P. Indy who produced champion Royal Delta, and to stakes winner Indy Five Hundred. His second dam, Proud Delta, was champion older mare.
"We are committed to the Florida breeding program and this horse complements what we are trying to do in Florida," said Woodford Thoroughbreds general manager Matt Lyons. "He has all the ingredients to be an important sire. He was a group/grade 1 winning miler at 2, he could run on dirt, all weather, and turf. He's a son of arguably the best young stallion in the world in Bernardini and he has a wonderful female family. We have listened to the Florida breeders and they have been crying out for a top horse to breed to. We will be supporting him with some of our best mares."
