American sales companies did well in Japan the weekend of the Nov. 25 Japan Cup (Jpn-I). In addition to Keeneland graduate American Winner capturing a race on the Japan Cup card at Tokyo Racecourse, Barretts sales grad Shigeru Acerola won an allowance race at Kyoto by 1 1/2 lengths.

Japanese buyers return annually to the Barretts 2-year-old sales in Southern California. They have purchased such runners as Japanese group I winner Testa Matta, an earner of more than $4 million.

Shigeru Acerole, a 3-year-old son of Wildcat Heir  —Conqueress, by Conquistador Cielo, sold for $57,000 at the 2011 Barretts March sale. Hebert Bloodstock consigned the colt, and Shigeru Morinaka purchased him.

The Kyoto race was run over 1,200 meters on the turf, and Shigeru Acerole clocked the distance in 1:08.5. He earned 9.7 million yen.
