American Winner, a $140,000 graduate of the 2010 Keeneland September yearling sale, won the Marvelous Jockeys Trophy on the Nov. 25 Japan Cup day card at Tokyo Racecourse. The race was part of the World Super Jockeys Series, and Suguru Hamanaka of Japan piloted American Winner.

The allowance race for 3-year-olds and up was run over 1,600 meters (one mile) of the dirt track. American Winner defeated Japanese-bred Kosei Kotaro by two lengths in 1:36.8. Louise, a Japanese-bred 4-year-old daughter of 2005 Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) winner Roses in May, finished third.

Bred in Kentucky by Woodcote Stud Ltd., American Winner is a 3-year-old son of Bernardini  Zappeuse, by Kingmambo. The colt is a half brother to French group III winner Danzon and to La Reine Mambo, who was stakes-placed in France.

Runnymede Farm consigned American Winner to the Keeneland sale as agent, and Katsumi Yoshizawa bought the colt.
