A trio of juveniles trained by Todd Pletcher and Dover Stakes winner Vegas No Show top the field for the Nov. 24 Remsen Stakes (gr. II) at Aqueduct, a 1 1/8-mile, two-turn test that drew 10 entries.
The Remsen, part of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend stakes extravaganza, is race 7 on the card, with an approximate post time of 2:51 p.m.
The Remsen is one of the races included in the "Kentucky Derby Prep Season" for which points are awarded on the Road to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), with a point system of 10-4-2-1 for the first- through fourth-place finishers, respectively.
Topping Pletcher's Remsen entry are the Mike Repole-owned duo of Micromanage and Overanalyze , both of whom have been defeated previously by stablemate Shanghai Bobby , the Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) winner and early favorite for next year's Derby.
Overanalyze, a $380,000 Keeneland September yearling sale graduate, has won half of his four career starts, with earnings of $194,381. After breaking his maiden at first asking, Overanalyze was a tiring fourth in the Three Chimneys Hopeful Stakes (gr. II) won by Shanghai Bobby . In his next outing, the Dixie Union colt impressed when he overcame a poor start to win the Futurity Stakes (gr. II) at Belmont Park by 3 3/4 lengths. With Jockey John Velazquez aboard, the colt did not break well but recovered sufficiently to steadily make up ground and then burst home from the outside in the stretch.
With Repole announcing he would not send any horses to the Breeders' Cup World Championships due to a ban on anti-bleeder medications, Overanalyze was sent to Churchill Downs where he finished third as the 9-5 favorite in the Iroquois Stakes (gr. III).
In the Remsen, leading rider Ramon Dominguez will ride Overanalyze from the post 7.
In his two career starts, Micromanage rolled to a five-length triumph in his career debut at Saratoga before finishing finish fifth in Shanghai Bobby's Champagne Stakes (gr. I) victory at Belmont Park Oct. 6. Following the Champagne, Pletcher said the son of Medaglia d'Oro who was purchased for $170,000 at the 2011 Keeneland September yearling sale "needed to do a little more. He was a little bit wide around the turn and I think we learned a little something about the way he needs to be ridden. We probably need to place him in the race a little more."
Velazquez gets the mount on Micromanage, who was ridden by Joel Rosario in the Champagne.
Drawing the rail and co-highweight with Overanalyze at 118 pounds is Vegas No Show, trained by Kelly Breen for George and Lori Hall. One of the most experienced horses in the field with five starts, the son of Hard Spun broke his maiden while going a mile in his second career start. After finishing sixth in the Hopeful, the $105,000 Keeneland September yearling sale purchase won the Dover Stakes at Delaware Park. Previous to the Remsen, Vegas No Show finished second in the Nashua Stakes (gr. II), two lengths behind Violence , after engaging in a bumping incident with the winner in the stretch.
WinStar Farm and Twin Creeks Racing Stable's Delhomme, another Dixie Union colt trained by Pletcher, has a win and one second from two starts, having scored his first career victory in maiden special weight company at Belmont Park Oct. 13 as the prohibitive 2-5 favorite.
Another Remsen entrant with stakes experience is Red Oak Stable's Keep the Canoli, a Florida-bred son of Imperialism trained by Greg Sacco. After breaking his maiden in maiden claiming company at Monmouth Park in his first outing, Keep the Canoli finished fifth, 4 1/4 lengths behind the winner, in the five-furlong Tyro Stakes at Monmouth. A subsequent three-length win at Laurel Park was followed by a game second in the Dover, with the colt leading late before relinquishing it to Vegas No Show at the wire.
