Warm temperatures that caused rapid thawing of the frozen track Wednesday coupled with rain Thursday led Turfway Park to cancel racing Thursday night. The cancellation is the second in a row and second of the year for the northern Kentucky oval.
"While we never like to have to cancel live racing, we are doing what is in the best interest of the horses and riders," Turfway president Robert N. Elliston said.
The Turfway announcement noted that the track maintenance crew, which has worked around the clock since the meet began Nov. 25, was attempting to remove the excessive water from the track so live racing could resume as soon as possible.
