John Oxley's Prospective came flying down the lane to win the $150,000 Delta Mile by 1 1/4 lengths two races later under jockey Miguel Mena. The Mark Casse trainee came from the back of the pack and powered to the front in late stretch for the victory. The three-year-old colt covered one mile in 1:38 2/5.
Pants on Fire, the 3-5 favorite, thrashed around in the gate before the start and was never a threat while finishing sixth.
Prospective, winner of the Grade 3 Ohio Derby in July, returned to the winners circle after back-to-back unplaced finishes in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy and Oklahoma Derby. The son of Malibu Moon boosted his bankroll to $706,235 and now has a career mark which reads 14-7-2-0.
Later on the card, Westernator rallied to win the $150,000 Louisiana Legacy with Mark Guidry in the irons. The Steve Asmussen-conditioned juvenile captured his first stakes by three parts of a length while stopping the teletimer in 1:41 for one mile. The gelded son of Intimidator was coming off back-to-back second-place finishes after breaking his maiden by 7 1/4 lengths at Louisiana Downs in September.
Owned by Keith and Steve Asmussen, Westernator's stakes victory on Saturday increased his lifetime earnings to $138,092 and his career line now reads 5-2-3-1.
Seth and Maury Harrington & Blackwater Racing Stable's Hometown Gossip closed out the undercard with a win in the $150,000 Louisiana Jewel. Ridden by Chris Rosier, the two-year old filly captured her first stakes win by 3 3/4 lengths in a final time of 1:41 for one mile.
Trained by Joseph Foster, the bay miss broke her maiden last out over this track by 5 3/4 lengths. The Milwaukee Brew daughter boosted her bankroll to $124,020 and her resume stands at 6-2-0-4.
Also on Saturday's card, Agave Racing Stable's Monono captured the $70,000 Orleans in a stakes-record time of 1:26.04 with Richard Eramia holding the reins. The Michelle Lovell-trained three-year-old filly was 1 1/4 lengths clear on the wire of the seven-furlong contest.
Wayne Sanders and Larry Hirsh's Donoharm was victorious as the 6-5 favorite in the $70,000 Sam's Town. The three-year-old gelding, who was ridden by Miguel for trainer Bret Calhoun, covered seven furlongs in 1:25 4/5 to score by three parts of a length.
