Poteen to Old English Rancho

Poteen, a U.S. stakes winner and classic-placed in England, will enter stud at Old English Rancho in Sanger near Fresno, Calif. An 8-year-old son of Irish River, he will stand for a syndicate for $2,500 live foal.

Poteen, a Kentucky-bred who was produced from the Rouge Sang mare Chaleur, began his race career in England, where he placed in five stakes, three of which were group I, including the Pertemps English Two Thousand Guineas. Following his return to the U.S., he won the Solana Beach Stakes on grass and placed in the San Francisco Mile Handicap (gr. IIT) and Woodbine Mile Stakes on turf. He enters stud with four wins from 19 starts and earnings of $435,509.
