Belmont Park and Aqueduct Racetrack will be closed for simulcasting Oct. 29 and 30 in anticipation of heavy rain and high winds as a result of Hurricane Sandy. Telebet and Internet wagering through NYRA Rewards also will be suspended on both days.

The Grandstand structures at Belmont and Aqueduct are official evacuation centers for the New York City Office of Emergency Management and the buildings will remain open on Monday and Tuesday for evacuee processing. NYC-OEM personnel will be on site at both locations throughout the storm to assist evacuees, operating on the first floor of the grandstand at Belmont and on the Resorts World Casino New York City portion of the property at Aqueduct. Evacuees reporting to either location will be processed by NYC-OEM and transferred to nearby shelters.

"The safety of NYRA's patrons and employees is our paramount concern," said NYRA president and chief operating officer Ellen McClain in a release. "Given the forecast, we're taking every precaution to secure the facilities and minimize risk for all involved."

With the conclusion of Belmont Park's fall race meet Oct. 28, there is no live racing is scheduled at either facility until opening day at Aqueduct Nov. 2.
