DMTC Director Stewart Bowie Dies

Stewart Bowie, a director of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, died on New Year's Day at his home in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. He was 76.
A World War II veteran, Bowie joined the DMTC. as a breeder and owner, as well as being a retired founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Santa Anita Development
"When Stewart was elected to the Board of Directors in 1988, he brought to Del Mar his vast experience and expertise in the business world as well as a deep affection for our sport," recalled Joe Harper, president and general manager of the DMTC. "His wise counsel, guidance and contributions were instrumental in the success which Del Mar has enjoyed. Those qualities will be missed, as will his warm friendship."
Bowie is survived by his wife, Muffett, six children, 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
