Breeders' Cup Works Heat Up at Santa Anita

Fans at Santa Anita Park's Clockers' Corner had plenty of action on the morning of Oct. 25 as 10 horses pointing to the Breeders' Cup World Championships wnet through their paces.

Boasting the Kentucky Derby (gr. I)-winning connections of trainer Doug O'Neill and owner J. Paul Reddam, He's Had Enough earned the bullet for a six-furlong work in 1:12 2/5. The Tapit   colt worked handily as he prepares for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I.)

Meanwhile Racing Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella watched Del Mar Debutante Stakes (gr. I) runner-up Beholder handily complete a five-furlong move in 1:01 3/5. The Henny Hughes   filly, who won an allowance race by 11 lengths Oct. 4, is preparing for a start in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint or the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I), Mandella's second preference.

"It was a nice work," Mandella said. "We're pre-entered in both races but we're leaning towards the open Sprint."

With Santa Anita hosting this year's Breeders' Cup on Nov. 2 and 3, the busy work mornings figure to continue.

At Calder Casino & Race Course, defending Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (gr. I) winner Musical Romance breezed five furlongs in :59 4/5 on a dirt track listed as sloppy. The move was fastest of three at the distance.
