Meadowlands Racetrack has canceled live racing Oct. 19 after heavy rains throughout the night and early morning in northern New Jersey and with rain in the forecast throughout the afternoon.

"Obviously the safety of our horses and riders is paramount," said Bob Kulina, president of track operator Darby Development. "It was a unanimous decision by all interested parties to cancel today's racing."

The six-race all-turf program is part of a Thoroughbred meet running on Fridays and Saturdays from Oct. 12 through Nov. 3.

Racing is scheduled to resume Oct. 20 with a first post time of 2:15 p.m. EDT.
