In a virtual replay of the Frances A. Genter one race earlier, Larry Fugate's Cash Rules just held the late run of Ducduc on the wire of the Grade 3, $100,000 Spend a Buck Handicap on Calder's Festival of the Sun program Saturday.

The 2-5 favorite circled the dueling pacesetters rounding the turn and had a clear lead in the lane, but Ducduc slowly whittled away that advantage as Cash Rules visibly began tiring. In the end, the five-year-old gelding had enough left to hold Ducduc by three parts of a length on the wire to return $2.80, $2.40 and $2.10. Jockey Luis Saez guided Cash Rules to finish 1 1/16 miles on the good main track in 1:46 4/5.

Ducduc was game in defeat after saving ground along the inside down the backstretch in the back of the field. The Langfuhr six-year-old stayed on the rail as Cash Rules swung wide of the dueling Decisive Moment and Two is to Many, but angled out to follow his rival entering the lane. He quickly moved back over to the rail as Cash Rules ran a bit erratically late and just missed while easily best of the rest.

Flatter This came from last to take third by a head over Fair Whit, while Two is to Many and Decisive Moment completed the order of finish after Gourmet Dinner and Csaba were both withdrawn.
