The curtain will be drawn on jockey Pedro Alvarado's career with his mount on Mr Exspeedient Oct. 14 in the final race of the 2012 season at Hastings Racecourse.

Saying at age 47 that the toll on his body is starting to catch up with him, Alvarado will pursue a training career.

Between riding in the U.S and Canada, Alvarado has ridden 15,560 starters and 2,713 winners with total purse earnings worth more than $24.6 million as he heads into the final weekend at Hastings. He was the leading rider three successive years at Hastings beginning in 2002 and won another title in 2006.

Alvarado, who passed his trainer's exam this year, told Daily Racing Form: "The last four years have been the hardest. My body just can't do it anymore. Now when I push hard in training, I don't have the amount of energy I need for the afternoon races. I really want to give my body a rest."

Pedro will be saluted for his outstanding accomplishments Oct. 14 after the sixth race at the Vancouver oval.
