Ione and Herbert Elkins' Putyourdreamsaway leads a field of nine juvenile fillies entered for the $300,000 My Dear Girl Division of the Florida Stallion Series at Calder Casino & Race Course Oct. 13.
At 1 1/16 miles on the Calder main track, the My Dear Girl is one of five stakes on a card that includes the In Reality Division of the FSS for colts and geldings, the Spend a Buck Handicap (gr. III), and the Tropical Park Derby. It is scheduled as race 10 of 12 with an approximate post time of 4:47 p.m. EDT.
The My Dear Girl has been won by top-quality fillies such as Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic (gr. I) contender
Awesome Feather, who blazed through all divisions of the Florida Stallion Stakes in 2010 before continuing on to build a perfect 10-for-10 record. She won all six of her 2-year-old starts, taking the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. 1) and divisonal championship honors.
Trained by Bill Kaplan, 5-2 morning line favorite Putyourdreamsaway broke her maiden by 5 1/4 lengths at first asking in mid-July. She followed that performance with a second-place run in the $75,000 Desert Vixen Division before bouncing back from defeat with a 7 1/2-length last-start romp in the Susan's Girl Division.
The
Put It Back filly will start from post 6 with Juan Leyva scheduled to ride.
Putyourdreamsaway's victory was a turn of the tables over
Candy Coded Kisses, who upset by four lengths at odds of 24-1 in the July 28 first leg of the series, the Desert Vixen Stakes. The daughter of
Omega Code has since run again with less positive results, finishing eighth while never a factor in the $100,000 Cassidy Stakes Sept. 29 for owners Easton and Elsaida DeSouza.
Candy Coded Kisses has drawn post 4 and will be ridden by Orlando Bocachica.
Miller Racing's
Jewel in the Sky is the only other runner in the field with more than one win, but comes off disappointing outings while favored in the Susan's Girl and the Cassidy. The Marty Wolfson-trained runner was fourth in the Susan's Girl, and finished behind Candy Coded Kisses last time out.
