Undefeated 2-year-old Shanghai Bobby will travel to California to compete in the Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) Nov. 3 at Santa Anita Park, Starlight Racing managing partner Jack Wolf confirmed Oct. 8.
Trained by multiple Eclipse Award winner Todd Pletcher, the Harlan's Holiday colt has posted four career victories for Starlight, most recently capturing the Foxwoods Champagne Stakes (gr. I) by five lengths at Belmont Park in New York Oct. 6.
"Todd and I discussed our options this morning," Wolf said. "The colt came out of the race in great shape and has given us every indication that he belongs. He's done everything that's been asked of him and more. We are very excited for our partners and team and feel fortunate to have such a talented colt headed to the World Championships."
Shanghai Bobby has earned $607,000. In addition to the Champagne, he has triumphed in the Three Chimneys Hopeful Stakes (gr. I), Track Barron Stakes, and a maiden special weight event.
The Hopeful and Champagne both are Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In Challenge" races for the Juvenile.
Bred by Stonehaven Steadings in Kentucky, Shanghai Bobby is out of the Orientate mare Steelin'. Frank Brothers, agent, purchasedthe dark bay or brown colt for Starlight for $105,000 from Stonehaven Steadings, agent, at the 2011 Keeneland September yearling sale.
