La Prevoyante Features Long Island Rematch
Gerald Robbins and Jay Weiss' Queue, Roger Attfield and partners' Sweetest Thing, and F. Eugene Dixon's Lady Dora finished one-two-three, respectively, last out in the 12-furlong Long Island Handicap (gr. IIT) at Aqueduct on Nov. 10.The talented trio will match up again at Calder Saturday over the same distance when a field of 10 fillies and mares goes to the post for the 27th running of the $150,000 La Prevoyante Handicap (gr. IIT).Jockey Jose Espinoza gets the return call on Queue for trainer Vinnie Blengs, with Richard Migliore back aboard Sweetest Thing and Eibar Coa on Lady Dora. A 4-year-old daughter of French Deputy, Queue loves the distance and was very impressive winning the Long Island by 2 ½ lengths with a 12th-to-first rally.Stonerside Stable's Krisada finished fourth in the Long Island for trainer Shug McGaughey, beaten only a length for second. The 5-year-old daughter of Kris S. will be ridden by Pat Day, who was aboard when she finished third in the 12-furlong Dowager Stakes at Keeneland in October, beaten only a head for it all.Trainer Christophe Clement has won the La Prevoyante four times previously, twice with the top class Coretta, and will have two chances to win a fifth renewal with Gerald Leigh's Irish-bred Summer Solstice (jockey Jose Santos), or Moyglare Stud's Step With Style (Edgar Prado). Both would appear to be in with a chance. Summer Solstice is a 4-year-old daughter of Caerleon and was a stakes winner at Deauville last summer before being placed with Clement last winter. She won her American debut at Gulfstream in February and didn't run again until the Long Island when she checked in sixth.Completing the field are Bowl of Emeralds, Jerry Bailey; Great Fever, Manuel Aguilar; Clearly a Queen, Cornelio Velasquez; and Boana, Jorge Chavez.H.C. Polk Jr. and J.D. Richardson's 4-year-old filly Bowl of Emeralds is a 4-year-old daughter of A.P. Indy trained by Bill Mott. She finished second by a nose in the Dowager, but a distant 11th in the Long Island in an effort too poor to believe.
