Irving Hook, a long time contributor to the Colorado racing industry, died Sept 23.

Hook served as a secretary and treasurer for the Colorado division of the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association from the 1960s to the 1980s. He was known for coming forward with solutions that would better serve the racing industry, not only from the local HBPA, but also from the national HBPA standpoint.

He worked constantly to create a more positive association between horsemen and management.

Hook also served as chairman of the Colorado Racing Commission. He was a strong believer in the veterinary industry and the veterinarians involved in handling horses with the most humane treatment through the proper treatment plans and necessary legal medications.
