Jockey David Amiss recorded the 1,000th victory of his career at Suffolk Downs Sept. 22, guiding Adahai to the wire first in the $50,000 African Prince Stakes.

Adahai, a 3-year-old son of Yonaguska trained by Wayne Marcoux, drew clear of leader Danly's Dream in mid-stretch and held off a late charging Fonzy. He ran six furlongs in 1:12 4/5 and remained undefeated from two starts. Adahai returned $5.00, 3.00 and 2.60.

"There have been some bumps in the road," said Amiss. "But I am so grateful to have it happen here, at Suffolk Downs."

Amiss, a 47-year-old New Hampshire native, began his career in racing as a teenager with trainer John Rigattieri, working his way up from rubbing horses to eventually riding. He recorded his first victory in May of 1986 at Rockingham Park aboard Herbachee for Rigattieri.

Amiss also won the ninth and 10th races, for a three-win day.

Hosting its second annual food truck festival, Suffolk report on-track attendance of 9,212.
