Musical Romance, the champion female sprinter of 2011, will be consigned to the upcoming Fasig-Tipton November breeding stock sale by Three Chimneys, the farm and consignor announced Sept. 18.
A multiple grade I winner of $1,627,694 for Bill Kaplan and Pinnacle Racing Stable, Musical Romance clinched championship honors following a decisive victory in last year's Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (gr. I) at Churchill Downs. She has since returned to win the Princess Rooney Handicap (gr. I) and Inside Information Stakes (gr. II) this year, and is campaigning toward a defense of her Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint title at Santa Anita Park.
"Musical Romance has demonstrated the rare combination of speed and soundness," said Kaplan, trainer and co-owner of the accomplished runner. "She was described during the Breeders' Cup telecast as an 'Iron Filly' and is a throwback to the golden age of racing. In a day when everyone is looking for the combination of speed, endurance, heart, courage, and soundness to pass along in breeding, there is none better."
Bred by Ocala Stud, Musical Romance is out of the Slew Gin Fizz mare Candlelightdinner, who has also produced multiple stakes winner and champion Vuelve Ruben M., by Concerto. She hails from the female family of grade I winners Rigoletta, Collect the Cash, and Stately Victor .
Musical Romance is a stakes winner on dirt, turf, and synthetic surfaces and has scored at distances ranging from 5 1/2 furlongs to a mile.
"Breeders' Cup winners are an elite group to begin with," said Three Chimneys president Case Clay. "Add to that the fact that Musical Romance is a multiple grade I winner and has done it on all surfaces, and she becomes part of a truly special group."
Musical Romance will be offered on the public market at this fall's Fasig-Tipton November sale the evening of Monday, Nov. 5.
As of now, the plan is for Musical Romance to run in the Nov. 3 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint, then ship to Kentucky the following day. She will be available for inspection at the Three Chimneys consignment at Fasig-Tipton on Sunday, Nov. 4.
