Uptowncharlybrown  , a stakes winner and grade II stakes-placed on the 2010 Triple Crown trail, has been retired from racing and will enter at stud in 2013 at Penn Ridge Farms near Harrisburg, Pa. The 5-year-old son of Limehouse   will stand for $1,500.

Uptowncharlybrown, one of 11 stakes winners by his sire, is a half brother to multiple stakes winner Startjumpin Marnie and is out of the winning Langfuhr   mare La Iluminada.

Uptowncharlybrown won his 3-year-old debut in Tampa Bay Downs’ seven-furlong Pasco Stakes in January by six lengths for owner Fantasy Lane Stable, completing the distance in 1:24.28. Three weeks earlier, in his only start at 2, he had broken his maiden at Tampa Bay by nine lengths.

Uptowncharlybrown twice hit the board in graded stakes company. He finished third behind Rule in Tampa Bay’s Sam F. Davis Stakes (gr. III) in his first start beyond a mile, and also was third in Keeneland’s Coolmore Lexington Stakes (gr. II). He was a sentimental choice in the Lexington, his first start following the death of his trainer, Alan Seewald, who died of a heart attack five days earlier.

Uptowncharlybrown finished fifth in the Belmont Stakes (gr. I), beaten four lengths by Drosselmeyer  . But in a bizarre occurrence, he was disqualified to last after losing an eight-pound lead weight pad from under his saddle during the running.

After being sidelined for more than a year, Uptowncharlybrown returned to hit the board in allowance company, once on Gulfstream Park’s turf course going 1 7/16 miles and over Belmont Park ’s main track at second furlongs. He was retired with a record of 2-2-2 from 13 starts and earnings of $125,030.

Uptowncharlybrown was bred in Kentucky by Juan Bruno and Rose Hill Farm.
