Kentucky Downs has canceled its Sept. 17 race card due to inclement weather and "less-than-perfect track conditions," according to a release from the Franklin, Ky. track.

"Safety comes first in all areas of operations at Kentucky Downs," said Corey Johnsen, Kentucky Downs president, in a release. "We walked the race course with a number of jockeys and several racing officials and came to a mutual conclusion that to minimize the risk of injury that it was in the best interest of all participants that we not race today."

According to the National Weather Service, rain is forecast to continue in Franklin the remainder of the day, with occasional thunderstorms.

The Kentucky Downs 2012 live race meet is scheduled to conclude with an eight-race card on Wednesday, Sept. 19.  First post time is 1:35 p.m. (CDT).
