Zippy's Career Takes on New Dimension

Zippy Chippy, the 9-year-old gelding who holds the record for futility with no wins from 86 career starts, will take on a minor-league baseball player in his next race. According to the Associated Press, the horse who has been banned from running at Finger lakes in upstate New York will run in a 40-yard dash against Jose Herrera, center fielder for the Rochester (N.Y.) Red Wings.The "2000 Red Wings Derby" will be held Thursday prior to the Red Wings' home game against Scranton/Wilkes Barre. Herrera has stolen 155 bases during his 10-year professional baseball career.
