Alvarado Fractures Clavicle, Out 4-5 Weeks

Junior Alvarado

Jockey Junior Alvarado was released from North Shore University Hospital late on the evening of Sept. 8 with a non-displaced fracture of his right clavicle, according to the jockey advocate for the New York Racing Association.

He is scheduled to follow up with an orthopedist on Sept. 10. Alvarado's agent, Mike Sellito, said the rider would likely be sidelined for 4-5 weeks.

Alvarado, 26, was unseated when his mount, Palace, bumped with Tower in Court in the late stages of Saturday's seventh race at Belmont Park. Palace, a 3-year-old son of City Zip  , stumbled and fell, but did not appear to be injured in the incident.

Alvarado finished tied for sixth in the jockey standings at the recently concluded Saratoga Race Course meet with 23 winners.
