The Green Monkey, the most expensive Thoroughbred sold at public auction, was represented by his first winner when his 2-year-old daughter Kinz Funky Monkey won at Del Mar Sept. 1 (VIDEO).

Racing for Always Believe Inc., Kinz Funky Monkey captured the 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race by a neck in 1:04.70. She had placed in her two previous starts.

Bred by Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds, Kinz Funky Monkey is the third winner from three foals of racing age out of the More Than Ready   mare Pretty Ready, whose offspring  includes stakes-placed Saint of Saints.

The Green Monkey (Forestry  Magical Masquerade, by Unbridled) was bought for $16 million by Demi O’Byrne from Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds, agent, at the 2006 Fasig-Tipton Florida February sale of 2-year-olds in training. The Green Monkey started three times, with his best effort coming in a third-place finish.

The Green Monkey, who stands at Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds near Ocala, Fla., has 24 registered 2-year-olds in his initial crop. He stood for $5,000 in 2012.
