Heatseeker  , a Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I) winner, sired his first winner when his 2-year-old daughter Surtsey won at Woodbine. A homebred for Yvonne Schwabe, Surtsey captured the six-furlong race by 3 1/2 lengths in 1:12.18.

Bred in Ontario, Canada, Surtsey is the second foal out of the stakes-placed Bold Executive mare Kick'em Jenny, a half sister to Queen’s Plate Stakes winner Wild Desert.

Heatseeker (Giant's Causeway  Rusty Back, by Defensive Play) set a track record in the Santa Anita Handicap and also recorded track records in the Californian Stakes (gr. II) and the Native Diver Handicap (gr. III). He stands at John C. Harris’ Harris Farms near Coalinga, Calif. He stood for $6,500 in 2012.
