Nuckols Farm reported that 2001 Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winner Monarchos continues to progress at the Midway, Ky., farm following emergency colic surgery.
Farm owner Charles Nuckols III said the 14-year-old son of Maria's Mon “now has about half of his paddock for grazing,” adding, “We have slowly allowed his food intake to increase, we are no longer using the muzzle, and he is off all his medications.”
Nuckols said that since the classic winner underwent surgery July 29, the farm has received many cards and calls from Monarchos’ large fan base.
“We are just thrilled with his progress,” Nuckols said. “His suture line looks very good, and we are very optimistic about his future.”
Monarchos has been represented by 15 stakes winners, including Win Willy and Plutonium in 2012.
