Five retired jockeys will ride against five of the top riders in the Arlington Park standings in the “Arlington Fab vs. Legends" turf race Aug. 17, one day before the 30th running of the Arlington Million (gr. IT) at the Chicago-area track.
Retired riders scheduled to participate in the pari-mutuel race are Hall of Fame jockey Earlie Fires; Patti Cooksey, who has been participating in similar races the last few seasons; Zoe Cadman, who is now an HRTV personality; former Eclipse Award winning rider Frank Lovato Jr.; and Midwestern racing mainstay Larry Melancon.
The retired jockeys will face the top five riders in the Arlington standings: Francisco Torres, James Graham, Rosemary Homeister Jr., Seth Martinez, and Jeffrey Sanchez.
The five former riders will be at Arlington as part of the track’s third annual “Dining With The Dynasty” fundraiser to benefit the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund and the Racetrack Chaplaincy of America.
The event, in the track’s Turf Club from noon-1 p.m. (CDT), includes lunch with jockeys such as Walter Blum, Bill Boland, Cadman, Cooksey, Jean Cruguet, Pat Day, David Erb, Jackie Fires, Earlie Fires, Lovato, Chris McCarron, Melancon, John Rotz, and Barbara Jo Rubin, according to a release from Arlington.
According to Arlington, a limited number of tables are available for $600 each. Contact Nancy LaSala at the PDJF, nancy.lasala@yahoo.com, for more information.
