Organizers have announced the inaugural Jim Hurst Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for Sept. 28 at Connemara Golf Tournament in Nicholasville, Ky.
Hurst, a long-time prominent personality in the Thoroughbred industry, was sales director at The Blood-Horse when he died unexpectedly in August of 2011 at age 51. The golf tournament and other fundraising efforts are being organized to assist with college expenses for Hurst’s two daughters, Maddie, 15, and Mollie, 11.
The golf tournament format will be a “scramble” and is open to the public. Those interested in playing in the tournament should email email@example.com with names of individuals in their foursome. Organizers will also assist those looking for a team on which to play, and can also be reached at (859) 806-8811. “Jim was as well-liked as anyone in the industry,” said Jim Cox, one of the organizers of the Jim Hurst Memorial Golf Tournament. “The response to this event thus far has been fantastic. So many people have come forward to help plan and participate. Jim’s wife, Jennifer, and daughters Maddie and Mollie are so moved by the outpouring of support in Jim’s memory.”
In addition to the golf tournament, an auction of horse halters will take place on eBay.com beginning Sept. 20 and ending on Sept. 29. The auction will include halters worn by Horse of the Year Zenyatta and Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winners Big Brown , Funny Cide, Fusaichi Pegasus , Giacomo , Go for Gin, Grindstone, I'll Have Another , Mine That Bird, Monarchos , Smarty Jones , Street Sense , Super Saver , Thunder Gulch , and War Emblem.
