Supercharger, the dam of 2010 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) winner Super Saver   and grade III winner Brethren  , has been purchased privately by Hill 'n' Dale, her connections confirmed Aug. 1.

WinStar Farm sold the daughter of A.P. IndyGet Lucky, by Mr. Prospector, in foal to Tiznow   with a Medaglia d'Oro   colt by her side, for an undisclosed amount.

Hill 'n' Dale also purchased an unraced 2-year-old filly out of Supercharger's full sister She's a Winner, the dam of grade I winners Bluegrass Cat   and Girolamo  . The filly, by Distorted Humor  , is named Charge of Angels. She will be sent to a trainer yet to be selected to begin her racing career.

"We're interested in trying to assemble a unique, elite broodmare band," said John Sikura, president of Hill 'n' Dale Farms. "In my opinion, there are two significant producing families in North America: one is Get Lucky and her daughters and the other is Better Than Honour and her daughters.

"We're fortunate enough to have a daughter of Better Than Honour named Teeming and we own a daughter of Get Lucky called Malka," he continued. "This was a chance to get further involved in a great family. These mares rarely, if ever, become available—and public auction is such a tough marketplace today; you're competing against the whole world."

Better Than Honour is the dam of 2006 and 2007 Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winners Jazil and Rags to Riches and 2009 Breeders' Cup Marathon winner Man of Iron.

WinStar president Elliott Walden said Supercharger will always hold a prominent place in the farm's history.

"She's been a real blessing for WinStar and it was just a business decision for us; we sell horses at all levels," he said. "I hope she's as good to John as she was to us. We bought her because we did have her full sister, the dam of Bluegrass Cat, and to have Super Saver come along really moved the farm forward; having him and Drosselmeyer in the same crop really took us to the next level."

Drosselmeyer  , by Distorted Humor  Golden Ballet, won the 2010 Belmont Stakes (gr. I) and came back the next year to take the Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I). Both horses now stand at WinStar.

"There's still immense interest and value in high-end yearlings, and these are the kind of mares that make your consignment different from other consignments," Sikura remarked. "I recognize their significance and value."
