Handle Up at Del Mar After First 10 Days

Pari-mutuel handle at Del Mar continues to exceed 2011 levels, particularly ontrack, officials said July 29 after the second full week of racing.

Through 10 days of racing, all-sources handle was up 1.7% to $118,190,913 from $116,215,047 for the first 10 days of 2011 according to statistics released by the California track. Ontrack handle of $24,508,705 is up 8.7% from $22,552,553 last year.

Advance deposit wagering produced $26,811,763 through the first 10 days of racing, up 9.4% from $24,504,210 in 2011.

Attendance for the first two weeks totaled 198,456, down 4.3%, officials said. Field size increased to 8.31 horses per race from 8.24 last year.
