Dolphus Morrison, breeder of 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, will disperse his Thoroughbred holdings during the Keeneland November breeding stock sale in Lexington Nov. 6-16. The dispersal of 22 horses—seven broodmares, five 2-year-olds in training, four yearlings, and six weanlings—will be handled by Gainesway Sales.
Included in the group is Samantha Nicole, a yearling full sister to Rachel Alexandra (by Medaglia d'Oro out of Lotta Kim, by Roar) stakes winner Abbott Hall (in foal to Kitten's Joy ), Lotta Rhythm (a stakes-winning half sister to the dam of Rachel Alexandra), and stakes-placed juvenile Shesakitty.
Dede McGehee, who owns Heaven Trees Farm near Lexington and boards some of the Morrisons' mares, said the couple decided the timing was right to sell their horses.
McGehee said Lotta Kim, the stakes-winning 11-year-old dam of Rachel Alexandra, is not included in the sale because she has reproductive issues.
Rachel Alexandra, who won 13 of 19 starts, earned $3,506,730, and was also voted champion 3-year-old filly of 2009, was one of three foals and the lone starter produced from Lotta Kim.
