Citing a forecast that calls for extreme heat and humidity, Suffolk Downs has canceled live racing for Tuesday, July 17.

"The health and safety of our athletes are always of foremost concern,” said Chip Tuttle, chief operating officer of the track located near Boston, Mass. “After consulting with our veterinarians, horsemen, and jockeys, it was clear that canceling Tuesday’s card was the prudent course of action.”

According to the National Weather Service, the July 17 forecast for Boston is mostly sunny skies and hot temperatures, with a high near 97 and winds of six to 16 miles per hour.

The track also will be closed for simulcasting July 17. Live racing and simulcasting are scheduled to resume July 18 with a first race post time of 12:45 p.m. (EDT).
