TVG Expands Del Mar Production

TVG has announced that in addition to televising the 37-day meet at Del Mar, the network will also produce the Southern California track’s simulcast and on-track broadcasts for the first time.

The Del Mar meet begins July 18 and concludes Sept. 5.

For the third consecutive year, TVG will also sponsor the $1 Million TVG Pacific Classic (gr. I) on Aug. 26.

 “Although TVG has been Del Mar’s exclusive broadcast provider for over a decade, this year marks an expansion of our partnership as we add the production of the track’s simulcast and on-track broadcasts to our plate,” said Tony Allevato, TVG executive vice president, in a press release.

“We’re pleased TVG is continuing their sponsorship of our premier race, the TVG Pacific Classic. Their support helps ensure the $1 million purse level, the only one of its kind for older horses in California,” said Josh Rubinstein, Del Mar’s senior vice president, development.

The 2012 Del Mar meet offers racing Wednesdays through Sundays and on Labor Day. In addition to the $1 Million TVG Pacific Classic, the meet will feature six other grade I races„Ÿthe Eddie Read Stakes, the Bing Crosby Stakes, the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes, the Del Mar Oaks, the Del Mar Debutante, and the Del Mar Futurity.

There also will be nine grade II races and three grade III stakes during the meet.
