Fasig-Tipton has added a sale of mixed stock and horses of racing age in New York to this year’s auction calendar. The sale will be held Oct. 9 at the company’s facility in Saratoga Springs.
According to a July 2 Fasig-Tipton press release, the auction’s creation is a response to the “fast-expanding population” in the Empire State. Purses in New York have grown significantly because racing there is receiving a portion of the revenue generated by a video-lottery-terminal casino that was opened at Aqueduct last year.
“All through the spring and early summer, our feedback from several clients in New York State led us to the decision to add this sale to our schedule,” said Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning. “We have an opportune date, there is a real up-tick in the quality and quantity of the product there, and we have one of the best sales facilities in the world in which to stage the sale.”
The deadline for entries is Aug. 3.
“This sale date makes it ideal for weanlings, in-foal mares, and breeding prospects,” Browning said. “It also comes at a time when many major racing operations are making transitions to racing in Florida, the West Coast and, of course, to the very attractive winter racing dates at Aqueduct. Our long-time employee and account executive Peter Penny is now a Saratoga resident for the summer and fall and will co-ordinate our sales recruitment from his office there. We are very excited about the opportunities this sale will bring to a broad spectrum of sellers and buyers.”
Fasig-Tipton conducts a select yearling sale and a New York-bred preferred sale in Saratoga Springs. The select sale is scheduled for Aug. 6 and 7. The preferred auction will be held Aug. 11 and 12. The company has conducted other types of sales in New York in the past.
