Champion Midnight Lute sired his first winner when his son Prohibiting won at Hastings Racecourse June 23. Campaigned by Robert Marjanovich, Prohibiting captured the six-furlong race in 1:12.72 while scoring by a half-length (VIDEO).
Bred in Kentucky by Mark Secrest and Gary Anderson, Prohibiting is out of the winning Tabasco Cat mare Blazing Cat and is a half brother to stakes-placed Catty Buddha. The 2-year-old gelding was purchased by Glen Todd for $30,000 from the Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency consignment to the 2011 Keeneland September yearling sale.
Midnight Lute (Real Quiet—Candytuft, by Dehere) won the 2007 TVG Breeders’ Cup Sprint (gr. I), the year he was champion sprinter, and came back the following year to win the race when it was named the Sentient Flight Group Breeders’ Cup Sprint. Midnight Lute stands for $15,000 at John Sikura’s Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms near Lexington.
