Remember Tincin, whose connections threatened to enter the maiden in this year's Kentucky Derby before a cough forced his withdrawal?
Those who look back on that debacle fondly will want to tune in for the Dec. 15 Hollywood Futurity (gr. I), when Warp Speed Scottie -– beaten by 52 1/2 lengths in a Turfway Park allowance race in his most recent start –- will ship in to take on Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) third-place finisher Siphonic and other classy horses in the 1 1/16-mile race, the track's racing office was informed Friday.
The Hollywood Futurity isn't quite the Kentucky Derby, and Warp Speed Scottie has earned a front-running win in a claiming sprint for maidens, still the Iowa-bred colt seems a bit out of place in grade I company at this point in his career. The 52 1/2-length trouncing came on a sloppy track, but the son of 1989 Hollywood Futurity runner-up Farma Way also lost by 52 lengths on a fast track in the Cradle Stakes, his lone stakes start. R.E. Tracy Jr. trains the colt for Spring Creek Farms.
Aside from Warp Speed Scottie and Breeders' Futurity Stakes (gr. II) winner Siphonic, others pointing toward the Hollywood Futurity are Hollywood Prevue (gr. III) one-two finishers Fonz's and Popular, as well as Yougottawanna, Mountain Rage, and Labamta Babe. No longer on the list of likely entrants is the Thoroughbred Corp.'s Officer.
As for Tincin, as of his most recent race Nov. 8 at Hoosier Park, the son of Discover is still a maiden after 17 starts, 10 in the claiming ranks.
