The gross and average price each rose 45.6% from the previous year during the opening session of the Magic Millions national weanling sale in Australia May 28, it was reported. In addition, the clearance rate increased to 76% from 66% in 2011.

“The figures speak for themselves,” said Magic Millions managing director Vin Cox. “It was a solid day’s selling and it was positive to see horses sold across the country as well as overseas.”

The 146 weanlings that were sold grossed Aust$4,767,000 ($4,692,680 in U.S. funds) and averaged Aust$32,651 ($32,142). Last year, 130 horses were sold.

A Onemorenomore colt topped the session, bringing Aust$200,000 ($196,882). Magic Millions, acting on behalf of a New South Wales-based client, purchased him from Patinack Farm.

Produced from the winning Dolphin Street mare Ocean Bridge, the weanling is a half brother to Run For Wilson (by Shamardal), who captured the 2009 NSW Breeders’ Plate in Australia.
