The second session of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale of 2-year-olds in training started with a bang May 22 in Maryland when the first horse in the auction ring, a son of Indian Charlie, brought $300,000. Ahmed Zayat’s Zayat Stables purchased the bay juvenile from Eddie Woods, agent.

“He is a great individual and a great mover. And Indian Charlie was a hell of a stallion,” said a Zayat spokesman, who asked not to be identified.

The colt is the second-highest-priced horse sold in the auction so far, behind only a $575,000 Scat Daddy  Magical Mist colt that topped the May 21 opening session. The $300,000 juvenile worked an eighth of a mile in :10 3/5 during the sale’s under tack show.

The colt is the first foal out of Victorianna (by Tale of the Cat  ), who captured the 2008 Fit for a Queen Stakes at Arlington Park. She is a half sister to grade II winners Time Limit (by Gilded Time) and Miss Indy Anna (by Apalachee). Victorianna also is a half sister to grade III producer Shebandowana (by Mt. Magazine).

Quarter Pole Enterprises bought the colt for $125,000 from VanMeter Sales, agent, at the 2011 Keeneland September yearling auction.
