Castellano Will Ride Dullahan in Belmont
Javier Castellano will ride Donegal Racing’s Dullahan in the June 9 Belmont Stakes (gr. I). Donegal Racing president Jerry Crawford told the Des Moines Register May 21 Castellano will replace Kent Desormeaux, who on May 18 failed a breathalyzer test before racing at Belmont Park in New York and lost his mount aboard Tiger Walk in the Preakness Stakes (gr. I) the following day. Crawford told the newspaper he’s confident Desormeaux “will address his problems,” and that he hopes the jockey can ride the stable’s horses in the future. Dullahan, by Even the Score , finished third in the May 5 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I). He worked five furlongs in 1:00 1/5 on a fast track at Churchill Downs May 19 as he continued preparations for a start in the Belmont for trainer Dale Romans.
