Devon Lane, a successful New Mexico stallion, suffered a cardiovascular event May 21 while covering a mare at TNL Farm near Bosque, N.M., according to syndicate manager Daniel Lucas. The son of Storm Cat was 19.
Bred in Maryland by Daniel and Allison Lucas, Devon Lane raced for the Lucas family, winning three of six races. As a stallion, he is represented by 173 winners from 407 foals of racing age and 13 stakes winners including grade I winner River's Prayer and the earners of more than $8.7 million.
River's Prayer, bred in California by Vessels Stallion Farm won eight stakes--five in 2007 including the Princess Rooney Handicap (gr. I) at Calder and Del Mar's Rancho Bernardo Handicap (gr. III).
A half brother tomultiple grade I winners Starrer and Stellar Jayne, Devon Lane was produced from the grade III-placed Relaunch mare To the Hunt.
Starrer won the grade I Santa Margarita Invitational and Santa Maria handicaps in 2003 while Starrer Jayne landed the grade I Mother Goose Stakes and Gazelle Handicap in 2004 and the Ruffian Handicap the following year.
