Grade II winner Dean's Kitten, a stakes victor all three years he raced, has been retired from racing after suffering a bowed tendon while being prepared for his 5-year-old debut. Breeding plans are undecided.

Bred and raced by Ken and Sarah Ramsey, Dean’s Kitten last ran in the 2011 Emirates Airline Breeders’ Cup Turf (gr. IT), finishing ninth.

Dean’s Kitten was a stakes winner on the main track and on the turf. His first stakes win came at 2 in the 2009 Vision Stakes on grass at Belmont Park.

The son of Kitten's Joy   captured the 2010 Lane’s End Stakes (gr. II) over Polytrack at Turfway Park at 3, and took the Dallas Turf Cup Stakes at Lone Star Park at 4. Following the Lane’s End, Dean’s Kitten finished 14th in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).

Two of his best performances came against 2011 champion male turf runner Cape Blanco. Dean’s Kitten was beaten a nose by Cape Blanco in last year’s Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational Stakes (gr. IT). In the Arlington Million Stakes (gr. IT) last summer, Dean’s Kitten finished third behind Cape Blanco and three-time champion Gio Ponti  .

Trained by Mike Maker, Dean’s Kitten was retired with a record of 4-4-4 from 24 starts and earnings of $802,950. He won or placed in nine stakes.

Dean’s Kitten is out of the winning Ide mare Summer Theatre.
