With all scheduled turf races after the fourth race switched to the main track due to rain, I'm Indy Mood rallied from off the pace to win the $110,200 Glens Falls Handicap by a neck over 1999 Glens Falls (gr. IIIT) winner Idle Rich Friday at Saratoga. The race, originally scheduled as a 1 3/8-mile event on the inner turf course, was run at 1 1/4 miles on a sloppy main track. The winner completed the distance in 2:07.41 under jockey Heberto Castillo Jr. Cybil finished third, followed by Free Vacation, Amalia, and Gimmeakissee. Three horses were scratched, including morning-line favorite Melody Queen.

"I thought she had her best shot to win on the dirt," said winning trainer James J. Toner. "I didn't think she could beat some of these fillies on the turf."

Trained by Toner for owners Patricia Nicholson, G. Seelbinder, and R. Nicholson, I'm Indy Mood earned $66,120 for the win, her fifth from 26 career races. The win was the first for the 5-year-old daughter of A.P. Indy since she won an Aqueduct allowance race in October. She was bred in Texas by Harold V. Goodman.

Sent off as the second choice in the wagering, I'm Indy Mood paid $7.30, $3.40, and $2.70. The winning exacta combination was worth $21.80.

As a result of the surface switch, the race was automatically downgraded from its original grade III status. The original grade may be reinstated at a later date after review by the American Graded Stakes Committee of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association. (Chart, Equibase)
