Groupie Doll Gets Break After Stellar Efforts
Groupie Doll earned herself a vacation after completing back-to-back grade I victories with a track record-setting performance in the Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs May 5, trainer Buff Bradley said. Bradley bred Groupie Doll with his father, Fred, on their Indian Ridge Farm in Frankfort, Ky. They now race the 4-year-old daughter of Bowman's Band in partnership with Carl Hurst and Brent Burns. Prior to winning the Humana Distaff in a track record time of 1:20.44 for seven furlongs, Groupie Doll won the Vinery Madison (gr. I) on the Polytrack at Keeneland. She was ridden to both victories by Rajiv Maragh. “We planned to give her some time off and thought we might do it after the race at Keeneland, but with the (Humana Distaff) being here, we decided to go one more with her,” Bradley said May 10. “There isn’t much for her right now anyway and the weather is so perfect she can be out in the field all day, every day.” Bradley said Groupie Doll, who was sent to the farm earlier in the week, is enjoying her time with her paddock mate, Brass Hat. The 11-year-old gelded son of Prized retired last year with 10 victories to his name and more than $2.1 million in earnings. Bradley admits he doesn't remember every horse foaled at Indian Ridge but he certainly remembers the birthday of Groupie Doll. Groupie Doll's recent wins improved her career record to 6-3-2 in 13 races with earnings of $687,850. The chestnut filly is out of the Silver Deputy mare Deputy Doll.
