Undefeated Black Caviar will return to Morphettville in Adelaide, Australia, May 12 to compete in the group I Goodwood Stakes, her final race in Australia before she heads to Great Britain for the Royal Ascot meet in June.

Australian news reports said the 5-year-old Bel Esprit mare will face eight others in the Goodwood, run at 1,200 meters (about six furlongs) on the grass. On April 28 Black Caviar romped in the group I Sportingbet Classic, formerly called the Robert Sangster Stakes, at the same distance at Morphettville.

Black Caviar, owned by a syndicate managed by Neil Werrett and bred in Victoria by Ric Jamieson, is 20-for-20 in her career and has earned more than $5.5 million. In the Sportingbet Classic she broke the Australasian record for consecutive victories previously held by Desert Gold and Gloaming.

The Herald-Sun newspaper reported Black Caviar, in a May 8 “gallop,” traveled the final 400 meters in :22.26 at Caulfield with trainer Peter Moody looking on.

“She worked lovely, quickening the last 400 meters and always traveling within herself,” Moody told the Herald-Sun. “She has ticked all the boxes, and she’s off to Adelaide.”

According to reports more than 30,000 people were in attendance at Morphettville when Black Caviar won the Sportingbet Classic.
