Irish classic winner Transworld, whose son Lonesome Glory was a five-time steeplechase champion, died in June from complications from old age at Gary and Maureen Alexander's Alexander Farm near Byers, Colo. The son of Prince John had stood there since being moved from Stonewall Farm in New York for the 1994 breeding season. Transworld covered seven mares this year.

Transworld, who was produced from the Hornpipe II mare Hornbeam, scored his classic win in the 1977 Irish St. Leger (Ire-I) and entered stud the following year at Elmendorf Farm near Lexington. He later stood at Gainesway Farm near Lexington before heading to Stonewall.

Transworld not only was represented by a millionaire in Lonesome Glory, but another of his offspring, Venezuelan Horse of the Year Winton, also reached seven-figures in earnings. Transworld's other 17 stakes winners included such major runners as Powder Break and The Hague. The former scored her biggest win against males in the Pan American Handicap (gr. IT), and The Hague won a division of the Hollywood Turf Cup and ran second in a division of the Hollywood Derby (gr. IT). Another offspring, Only Queens, won the Demoiselle Stakes (gr. I).
Transworld, a full brother to champion Protagonist, is represented by the earners of $12 million.
